9 Tips to Help You Manage Your Summer Electric Bill

Hot temperatures during the summer months can bring higher electric bills. We want you to know that we offer a variety of programs, tools and rebates to help you take control of your energy usage and manage your summer bill. Here are some tips and recommendations to help you get started.
1. CARE and FERA:
If you need help paying your monthly electric bill, look into the California Alternative Rates for Energy (CARE) and the Family Electric Rate Assistance (FERA) programs. If you qualify, you could receive up to a 30 percent discount off your monthly bill. Visit our website or call us at 1-800-798-5723 for more information and program enrollment.
2. Budget Assistant:
Managing your energy spending is simple with our free* and easy to use Budget Assistant tool. Just sign up and enter your monthly spending goal. We’ll track your usage online in close to real-time and send you alerts via email, phone or text when we forecast that your next bill is expected to exceed your goal. Budget Assistant allows you to make the changes necessary to stay within your “spending limit” each month. *Service is free, but you may incur fees for voice or text alerts as applicable through your mobile service provider.
3. Save Power Days:
You can earn up to $100 when you reduce your energy use from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. when a Save Power Day is called. Save Power Days will only be called on weekdays, typically up to 12 days a year. Enroll today and you can get alerts on when a Save Power Day is called. Click here or call 1-800-799-4209 to learn more about opting in for alerts, and how the bill credits are calculated.
4. Payment Arrangements:
Need more time to pay your electric bill? You may be eligible for an online payment arrangement through My Account. Log in now to set up your payment arrangement. Please note that you’ll need to have a balance due in order to set up a payment arrangement.
5. Medical Baseline:
If you or someone who lives with you full-time has a medical condition that requires electricity-powered life support equipment, you may be eligible to receive additional baseline allocation. You can apply for additional kWh if you have a hardship and need more. Please note that certification by a doctor is required.
